- Where do you obtain a medical record?
- What does it mean?
- What information is significant, and how can it be used to benefit your client?

Collecting medical records is the first step in preparing a negligence case for trial, but interpreting and analyzing the results can be very difficult for anyone without a medical background.

This practical program will prepare paralegals to interpret a medical history and provide a medical summary for use at trial. The speakers will review typical medical records in a negligence case, from the initial screening through their use at trial, and suggest ways for using this data to your client’s advantage.

Six reasons to attend this program…
1. Learn how to obtain and verify the accuracy of medical records and conduct medical and legal research.
2. Learn the commonly used terms and abbreviations found in medical records, diagnostic tests and procedures, and pharmacology.
3. Help your client gain the competitive edge by learning strategies to:
- organize medical records
- prepare a medical summary and chronology for use at trial
- find errors and omissions
4. Learn how to interpret a nurse’s charting system and notes.
5. Learn how to maximize your role as part of the trial team in your firm.
6. Learn about HIPAA and how it impacts the use of medical records.
